How to configure the iTivity iManager to work with UltraVNC viewer

There are sometimes where the default iTivity VNC Viewer will not work in a user's
environment. For this we have a work around where the user can install a different
VNC viewer. Specifically we have worked will with UltraVNC. Below are the instructions
on how to download and configure the iTivity iManager to work with the UltraVNC viewer.

The steps involved are :

1- Download and install UltraVNC
2- Upgrade to the latest version of the iManager
3- Configure the iManager to auto detect UltraVNC.

Below are the detailed instructions.

STEP 1

Where to download UltraVNC from ? You can use the URL below :

http://www.uvnc.com/downloads/ultravnc/124-download-ultravnc-1222.html

You can select the 32 or 64 bit version of the viewer. The iManager will
automatically detect the version you have installed.

In the installation dialog select to install only the UltraVNC viewer.

STEP 2

The first step to to upgrade to the latest version of the iManager. Below is the link
to the latest release :

ftp://ftp.tridia.com/download/iTivity/Win32/iManager/iTivity_iManager.msi

Run the installer. It will remove, upgrade, etc. to the latest release of the iManager.

STEP 3

The next step is to CONFIGURE the iTivity iManager to work with UltraVNC's viewer.

I have enclosed then link to the FAQ and the FAQ itself below for your conveniece.

How to use UltraVNC viewer instead of TridiaVNC viewer ?

Starting with iTivity iManager 8.0.02 BUILD #1

One can configure independently on the iManager and/or the Attended/Unattended iAgent
where or not to use the TridiaVNC viewer or TridiaVNC server.

As a reminder by default the TridiaVNC viewer is used on the iManager side and
the TridiaVNC server is used on the Attended/Unattended iAgent side.

One can configure to use UltraVNC on either side or both sides. Any combination is fine
as these are interchangeable modules.

The requirement is to have the UltraVNC viewer and/or Server installed on the iManager side
and the iServer side. Please follow UltraVNC installation instructions.

TO ENABLE UltraVNC Viewer on the iManager side.

- Use the following registry settings to enable the UltraVNC viewer to be the default
viewer to use.

NOTE: If the UltraVNC viewer is not present or not configured correctly the iManager
WILL NOT default back to the TridiaVNC viewer as a means to inform the user of
the configuration problem.

On 64 bit Windows systems use the registry entry below :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Tridia\iTivity\processor_rc]
"AutoDetectUltraVNC"=dword:00000001

On 32 bit Windows systems use the registry entry below :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tridia\iTivity\processor_rc]
"AutoDetectUltraVNC"=dword:00000001

The above settings will enable the usage of UltraVNC as the viewer for all users.

To customize a user level then use the following registry setting :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Tridia\iTivity\processor_rc]
"AutoDetectUltraVNC"=dword:00000001

- UltraVNC viewer path to use. The iManager will use the following default path
based on the typical UltraVNC installation :

For 64 and 32 bit versions of UltraVNC :

C:\Program Files\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe

For a 32 bit version of UltraVNC on the 64 bit system :

C:\Program Files (x86)\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe

- If neither of the above paths are in use by the current installation of UltraVNC
then the user can configure what path to use instead by using the following
registry setting :

On 64 bit Windows systems use the registry entry below :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Tridia\iTivity\processor_rc]
"UltraVNCPath"="A Valid Path see below"

On 32 bit Windows systems use the registry entry below :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tridia\iTivity\processor_rc]
"UltraVNCPath"="A Valid Path see below"

As a reminder it can be difficult to enter program paths in the registry.
We need to double escape back slashes. Below is an example entry used elsewhere
in the iManager :

"\"C:\\Program Files\\teraterm\\ttermpro.exe\" %H:%P /T=1"

Which shows how one would encode a path in the registry.
